It’s a jungle out there and I’ve got to go out and hoe to maintain the madness!

Yes, I mean garden hoeing.

We went out of town for three days and now my plot has been invaded by grass and other green stuff that I cannot identify…

Some of it [the "weeds"] I actually want to leave until I figure out if it’s actually has any beneficial uses.

What bugs me the most about this grass, is that it’s beautiful and I wish it could stay.

My grandmother keeps telling me to get the grass out or I won’t have a crop. :(

So today I will be spending my day hoeing because I want to reap what I’ve sown…

The Truth About Genetically Modified Food

Why has this Common Food Been Dumped in Europe… Yet, is Still Rampant in the US?

We’ve recently been blessed with fertile ground and space.

In an attempt to have control over the food we consume and to cut costs we’ve decided to grow and tend a garden.

Live off the land…

…at least partially…

We started on 4/13/10. It’s been about a month and things are looking pretty good.

Everything we’ve planted with the exception of five or so items, are all edible. I caught some slack from my neighbor for planting foodstuff in my front yard’s flowerbed (as if fruits and veggies don’t flower too…).

So far, we’ve planted:
Corn
Cucumbers
Mustard Spinach
Beets (Red and Golden)
Lentils
Pumpkin
Zucchini
Black Beans
Asian Peas
Carrots
Basil (Regular and Purple [Thai])
Zinnias
Marigolds
Cosmos
Mustard
Fenugreek
Cumin
Fennel
Radish
Spinach
Jalapeno
Broccoli
Onion (Red, White, and Yellow)
Mesclun
Pole Beans
Lima Beans
Nasturtiums
Morning Glorys
Moonflowers
Bell Peppers (Red and Green)
Habaneros
Anaheim Chilis
Garlic Chives
Thyme
Wildflowers
Cilantro
Snapdragons

We are really excited. I haven’t taken photos yet. I guess I’ll start tomorrow.

I’ve learned a whole lot so far. Next year, I’ll plot better, but so far, so good. In about another month, we will be able to eat the fruits of our labor!

Ok, so as it says (reads) somewhere in the Bible (Jesus’ words I think)…

“Ask, and it shall be given unto you.” – Jesus

At least I think it says that. I better go check…

Anyway. As I sit here looking out the window at the brink of a storm on a Saturday evening (I absolutely love the spring/summer thunder/lightening, rain drenching storms of the south and east coast)…

I actually had to realize that I’ve been given what I’ve bitched about wanting without truly understanding how I got here…

I do however remember me letting go…

…which I guess (know) is why I’m here…

Finally, I have time.
Finally, I have space.
Finally, I have more…
…because I have a lot “less”…

Now I know it’s not less even still. It’s more.

I can chill out and not have to worry.
Finally.

Everything I’ve been bitching about wanting… :)
