We’ve recently been blessed with fertile ground and space.

In an attempt to have control over the food we consume and to cut costs we’ve decided to grow and tend a garden.

Live off the land…

…at least partially…

We started on 4/13/10. It’s been about a month and things are looking pretty good.

Everything we’ve planted with the exception of five or so items, are all edible. I caught some slack from my neighbor for planting foodstuff in my front yard’s flowerbed (as if fruits and veggies don’t flower too…).

So far, we’ve planted:
Corn
Cucumbers
Mustard Spinach
Beets (Red and Golden)
Lentils
Pumpkin
Zucchini
Black Beans
Asian Peas
Carrots
Basil (Regular and Purple [Thai])
Zinnias
Marigolds
Cosmos
Mustard
Fenugreek
Cumin
Fennel
Radish
Spinach
Jalapeno
Broccoli
Onion (Red, White, and Yellow)
Mesclun
Pole Beans
Lima Beans
Nasturtiums
Morning Glorys
Moonflowers
Bell Peppers (Red and Green)
Habaneros
Anaheim Chilis
Garlic Chives
Thyme
Wildflowers
Cilantro
Snapdragons

We are really excited. I haven’t taken photos yet. I guess I’ll start tomorrow.

I’ve learned a whole lot so far. Next year, I’ll plot better, but so far, so good. In about another month, we will be able to eat the fruits of our labor!
